Shower Grout is More Important Than You Might Think

|

If your shower grout is in disarray, one quick call to The Grout Medic will remedy your problem.

Compared to the rest of our homes, we only see our showers a short while each day. While we are there, we might not have the health of our grout in mind. Showers are a practical part of our lives. Though they can be made beautiful – and are often so – we tend to dismiss that our tile and grout can fail. As a matter of fact, it is estimated that up to 75% of tiled showers will fail at some point. The problem is, when a tiled shower does fail, the repair clock begins ticking. For this reason, we recommend looking closely at all the grout inside your shower each time you clean it.

Problems with failing shower floor grout.

Many of our shower re-grouting projects begin and end on the shower floor. The floor of your shower bears impact and much more water than your walls, and therefore can become more stained between cleanings. The grout on the shower floor absorbs body oils to boot, as well as skin cells, and dirt that is being washed away during our time there. This leads to more vigorous cleanings – harsh chemicals, like bleach – and scouring brushes. The water exposure, chemicals, and scouring can all lead to grout failure. As the grout erodes, water begins to leak beneath the tile. Your shower pan can become damaged, and might also require replacing. The good news is, The Grout Medic can perform shower pan replacement with any shower regrouting project that requires it!

Shower pan tile replacement by The Grout Medic.

Don’t allow your grout malady to endure for long.

Perhaps you might think that replacing a shower pan is a full-scale repair project. At The Grout Medic, we know that while it is a more extensive repair than regrouting alone, it could be much worse. If a shower pan becomes damaged for long enough, and begins to leak to your home’s structure, the repair will be far more extensive. The Grout Medic offers water damage repair, but if we address your failing grout quickly enough, an extensive repair project can be avoided. Make a note the next time you are performing your regular cleaning, to give your shower’s grout a good once-over. Note areas around your floor drain and where your shower floor and walls meet. If you see areas of separation or areas with missing pieces of grout, it’s time to call The Grout Medic.
